The Lost Peak

Cookies Policy

Last updated 15 October 2026

This policy explains the cookies and browser storage The Lost Peak uses, what each one does and how you can control them.

In short

  • We use what the website needs to work, plus one optional extra that only runs if you allow it.
  • There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and nothing is shared with other companies.
  • The optional extra remembers the pages you visited recently, on your device only, so search can show them first.

What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files a website saves on your device. Browser storage (called local storage) works in a similar way. Websites use them to remember things, such as keeping you signed in.

Cookies We Use

These are the only cookies and storage set by The Lost Peak. The first two are strictly necessary for the website to work, which is why UK law allows them without asking first. The third is optional and is only used if you choose "Allow" in the cookie notice.

lp_session

Type
Cookie, strictly necessary
What it does
Keeps you signed in to your account. It is only set when you sign in.
Lasts
90 days, or until you sign out.

lpCookieChoice

Type
Browser storage, strictly necessary
What it does
Remembers your answer to the cookie notice, so it does not show on every page.
Lasts
Until you clear your browser data.

lpVisits

Type
Browser storage, optional (only if you choose Allow)
What it does
Counts which pages of this website you open and how often, so the search shows your most visited pages first. It stays on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else.
Lasts
Until you clear your browser data or choose "Essential only", which deletes it straight away.

Other Companies

Some parts of the website load content from other companies, which may set their own cookies or storage. We do not control these.

Mapbox
The maps. May store a small amount of data in your browser to make maps load faster.
YouTube
Videos on some hike pages. YouTube may set cookies when a video loads.

Links to OS Maps, AllTrails, Komoot and other websites take you to their sites, where their own cookie policies apply.

How to Control Cookies

You can change your answer to the cookie notice at any time with the button below. Choosing "Essential only" deletes the record of the pages you have visited.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Look in the help section of your browser for "cookies" or "site data". If you block our cookies, the website still works but you will not be able to stay signed in.

If we start using any new cookies we will update this page first. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
