Where exactly the summit of Maesglase lies has caused confusion: Maen Du was traditionally taken as the top, but more recent surveys favour Craig Rhiw-erch, measured at 678.5 m. It is the highest of the Dyfi Hills, reached by an easy but steep walk through the forestry from Dinas Mawddwy or from the bwlch on the A470. The Maesglase waterfall has a total height of 160 m.

Rock & Ground

Much of the higher ground is heather with large areas of rush, sedge and sphagnum bog, and bilberry grows in abundance on the eastern flanks.
