South of Cadair Idris, Tarrenhendre and its neighbour Tarren y Gesail form the bulk of the Tarren subgroup, which rises from the south shore of Tal-y-llyn Lake and ends at the Dyfi estuary. The 634 m summit is heathery and boggy, with a small cairn on a peat hag at the highest point. Views are extensive to the south and east, towards Plynlimon and Cardigan Bay, and between the two Tarrens lie the Bryn Eglwys quarry and Nant Gwernol station on the Talyllyn Railway.
