Beinn Liath Mhòr Fannaich, the 'big grey mountain of Fannaich', is a bulky outlier sitting just north of the main Fannichs ridge and joined to it by a ridge to Sgùrr Mòr. It overlooks Braemore and the Dirrie More, and its small summit cairn gives good views across to the Beinn Dearg hills. Climbing straight up the northern shoulder means dodging hidden hollows and stones, then a boulder field near the top.
