Càrn Liath, the 'grey cairn', is the eastern end of the Creag Meagaidh range, a domed hill with a long, flat crest and a large cairn on top. It rises above the birch woods of Coire Ardair, inside the Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve, where grazing has been kept down so native woodland can come back. The high plateau is a breeding ground for the dotterel, one of Britain's rarest birds.
