Chno Dearg is a rounded hill above Glen Spean, topped by a large cairn and known as a good viewpoint, especially north-east to the Creag Meagaidh hills. The name probably comes from Gaelic for 'red nut', after the heather on its slopes. Older maps called it Cnoc Dearg, 'red hill', and the Gaelic place-names body says the 'Chno' spelling is an Ordnance Survey mistake.
