Am Faochagach stands a little apart from the other Beinn Dearg hills, the high point of a run of rounded shoulders north of Loch Glascarnoch. Heather covers the lower slopes and the upper crests are grassy, with a cairn on top and views west to the Inverlael Munros. The usual approach crosses boggy ground on faint paths, with vehicle tracks on the broad tops. The name is thought to mean 'the heathery place'.
