Aonach Beag means 'little ridge', which is odd for a hill that's higher than its neighbour Aonach Mòr, 'big ridge'. The names describe their bulk seen from the glen, not their height. A small cairn marks the dome-shaped top, which sits above crags and buttresses, and a snow patch below its north face once lasted unbroken from 2006 to 2011. Apart from Ben Nevis, no hill outside the Cairngorms is higher in the British Isles.
