Càrn Mòr Dearg means 'great red cairn', a name that comes from its pink granite. A cairn sits on its summit, and from there the dark north face of Ben Nevis fills the view. The two are joined by the CMD Arête, a narrow, curving ridge that's a classic first taste of Scottish scrambling and part of a well-known horseshoe route.
