Beinn a' Chroin sits in the middle of the Crianlarich hills, with a long, knobbly summit ridge and small pools near the top. The highest point is a huge rounded rock, with a second rock barely a metre lower 75 m away, so the hill has twin summits. That's behind one reading of the name, 'hill of the cloven hoof', though 'hill of danger' is also suggested. Its northern corrie, Coire Earb, has a steep headwall and a floor of boulders and moraine left by Ice Age glaciers.
