Ben Starav climbs steeply from the head of Loch Etive, a sea loch, and it's a tough climb whichever way you go. It's the highest of a group of hills that includes Glas Bheinn Mhòr and Beinn nan Aighenan, with ridges, steep corries and waterfalls all round. The summit is a plateau with a cairn where the trig point used to be, and on a clear day you can pick out Ben Nevis, Ben Cruachan and the Glen Coe hills.
