Carn Dearg, 'red cairn', sits at the north-eastern end of a chain of Munros in the Ben Alder Forest, running out towards Loch Pattack. Its rocky, boulder-strewn top has a cairn, though a rock outcrop just to the east is slightly higher. Walkers have long used Culra Bothy as a base for this hill, but it's closed because of asbestos.
