Crowning the Berwyn range at 832 m, this is the highest point in North East Wales and the highest significant summit in Wales outside the National Parks. The true top, a rocky outcrop about 200 m south of the trig point, was noticed in 1987 by Cheshire rambler Bernard Wright, who named it Craig Uchaf ("highest rock"). Moel Sych lies 0.7 km along the ridge, and on a clear day the view takes in Snowdon, Cadair Idris, the Lake District and the Isle of Man.
