Above the village of Tanygrisiau, Moel-yr-hydd is a 648 m subsidiary summit of Moelwyn Mawr, easily climbed from Tanygrisiau station on the Ffestiniog Railway. Wrysgan Quarry was worked on its north-east flank from the 1830s until 1946, with substantial underground chambers driven beneath the summit. The top is a rocky outcrop, with Moelwyn Mawr 1.5 km away.
