Near the end of the more westerly of Waun Fach's two broad southern ridges, Pen Allt-mawr is the third highest peak in the Black Mountains at 719.6 m. Its stony summit has a trig point, a large shelter cairn and damaged Bronze Age cairns, though the highest ground is about 30 m south of the trig point. Pen Cerrig-calch is its close neighbour to the south, 2.1 km away.
New to the Pennants?Read our guide: What Are The Welsh Pennants?A slab of Late Devonian Quartz Conglomerate caps the stony summit, and softer mudstone bands give the hill a stepped look.
