One of the more colourful names among British mountains, Pen Llithrig y Wrach translates as 'slippery peak of the witch', perhaps for the boggy ground underfoot or the pointed, witch's-hat profile. This 798.6 m outlier of the Carneddau slopes steeply on its eastern side down to Llyn Cowlyd, and the higher peaks can be reached from it via Pen yr Helgi Du. Climbs start from Capel Curig or the A5 to the south, or from Dolgarrog or Tal-y-bont in the Conwy valley.
