AreaThe Carneddau

Highest point of the Carneddau, this broad massif reaches 1064 m with a drop of 750 m, and its summit is a flat, boulder-strewn plateau marked by a cairn. Cliffs below its ridges include the well-known rock climbs of Ysgolion Duon ("black ladders") and Craig yr Ysfa, and old snow patches have been known to survive in its southern gullies well into July. Llyn Llyffant, the highest lake in Wales, lies in the lee of the summit, and the name means "Llywelyn's cairn".
