The River Severn, Britain's longest river, has its source on Pumlumon, as do the Wye and the Rheidol. Pumlumon Fawr (Plynlimon) is the highest point of the massif at 752 m, crowned by a trig point, and the highest point in Mid Wales. The name is thought to mean 'five tops' or 'five beacons', and folklore says a giant sleeps in the mountain.
