Maiden Moor is a flat, grassy stretch of ridge between Catbells and High Spy, and its highest point is so level it carries no marker at all; Wainwright's cairn sits a few metres away. Bull Crag drops to the Newlands side, with views across to the Coledale fells. On its flanks are the remains of the Yewthwaite lead mine, worked from the late 1700s until 1893, and Beatrix Potter set The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle on these slopes. The origin of the name is obscure.
