Castle Crag is a steep, wooded knot of rock in the narrow Jaws of Borrowdale. A memorial to Borrowdale men killed in the First World War is fixed to the summit outcrop, and the top is thought to have been an ancient hill fort before quarrying cut away its western side. Caves in one of the old quarries were the summer home of the climber Millican Dalton from the 1920s until the 1940s. From the top you look over Derwent Water to Skiddaw.
