From the west, Nethermost Pike is only a stony swelling on the main Helvellyn ridge; it earns the name 'pike' from the east, where a rocky ridge drops between Nethermost and Ruthwaite Coves to Eagle Crag above Grisedale. Nethermost Cove holds some of England's best arctic-alpine plant life, including about a third of the country's downy willow, and Eagle Crag Mine once worked lead and zinc below. The flat summit is scattered with stones and several small cairns.
