White Side is a grassy summit on the Helvellyn ridge, and the main path crosses right over the top past a stone windshelter. Wainwright suggested the name may come from white quartz on its western slope. On the east side, Keppel Cove once held a dammed tarn that powered the Greenside mine, and when the dam burst in a storm in October 1927 the flood swept down into Glenridding; the broken dam is still there.
