Beinn Dòrain's steep cone is the first of the Bridge of Orchy hills you notice when heading north from the south of Scotland. The name means 'hill of the otter', and the Gaelic poet Duncan Ban MacIntyre, who worked here as a gamekeeper, praised it in his best-known poem, Moladh Beinn Dòbhrainn. Along the ridge, the first cairn you meet isn't the top; the large summit cairn is beyond a dip.
