Braeriach is the high point of the Cairngorms west of the Lairig Ghru, with a summit cairn on a curving plateau that looks down into a ring of corries. Below the summit, Garbh Choire Mòr is Scotland's snowiest corrie, and its Sphinx snow patch, first noted in the 1840s, often lasts all year, though it has melted out completely every year since 2021. The Gaelic name, Am Bràigh Riabhach, means 'the brindled upland'.
