Carn Aosda rises straight above the Glenshee ski centre, and snow fences, tows, huts and vehicle tracks reach almost to its top. Its name is usually taken to mean 'aged cairn', though some read it as 'hill of the inn', after an old inn by the Sean Spittal bridge at the foot of the hill. Pale quartzite stones cover the summit, where a small rock on the edge of the cairn marks the highest point. The view takes in the ski slopes, the Mounth and the Cairngorms.
