Carn Dearg, the 'red hill', stands in Corrour Forest above Loch Ossian, miles from any road, and most people walk in from Corrour or Rannoch station. With Sgor Gaibhre it forms a rounded massif with open corries that hold some of Scotland's biggest herds of red deer. The highest point is a rock outcrop just beside a tall cairn, and the ruins of Corrour Old Lodge lie on the south-western slopes.
