Càrn nan Gabhar, the 'cairn of the goats', is the highest of the three Munros on Beinn a' Ghlò, the 'hill of the veil or mist'. Legend says the massif has nineteen corries, and a rifle shot in one can't be heard in any other. The true top is a large cairn a short way north-east of the trig point, looking out to the Cairngorms. In 1993 an RAF Hercules crashed on the mountain, killing all nine on board.
