Meall Dearg is one of two Munros on the Aonach Eagach, the 'notched ridge' that walls in the north side of Glen Coe. Coming from the east it's the first Munro you reach, and beyond it the crest turns into a hard, exposed scramble towards Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh. The cairned top can also be climbed on its own from the north, avoiding the scramble. Steep grass and scree on both sides hide cliffs, so straying off the crest is dangerous.
