Sgurr a' Mhaoraich stands on its own between Loch Quoich and the sea loch of Loch Hourn, and its name is usually translated as 'peak of the shellfish'. The top is a rocky outcrop, with another of much the same height just to the north. Grassy shoulders rise from the road on the south side, but the north and west faces are steep and craggy, and the summit looks out over the Rough Bounds of Knoydart.
