Wales's fourth highest peak, Carnedd Dafydd reaches 1044 m on the main Carneddau ridge, on the border between Gwynedd and Conwy, with a cairn on top. Most walkers come up over Pen yr Ole Wen, 1.3 km away, and follow the ridge, though a direct ascent climbs from Tal y Llyn Ogwen beside the Afon Lloer to Ffynnon Lloer. The name means Dafydd's cairn, after Dafydd ap Gruffudd, younger brother of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last independent prince of Wales.
