South Wales's highest mountain, Pen y Fan reaches 886 m with a drop of 672 m, and a large cairn marks the top. Corn Du is its twin summit, and Cribyn lies 1.2 km away along the Brecon Beacons ridge. An eighteenth-century map labelled it 'The Vann or Brecknock Beacon', and the military 'Fan dance' exercise takes place on the mountain.
