Brandreth sits on the high ground between Great Gable and Haystacks, with a bleak, stony top where the remains of three old ridge fences meet. Its highest point is a rock, just higher than the cairn built round the old boundary post. Looking north and west, there's a clear view of Pillar, High Stile and the North Western Fells, and the route up from Honister passes the old Drum House at the top of the slate tramway.
