Dodd is the wooded hill between Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake, and conifers once grew right to the top, but the summit has since been cleared and now carries a stone memorial pillar to members of the 1st Seaton Scout Group. Ospreys nest nearby, watched from a viewing platform on the slopes, and in the 1860s a hermit called George Smith lived in a makeshift tent on a ledge of the fell. The top looks over both Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwent Water.
