Ullock Pike is the sharp northern tip of Longside Edge, a ridge running up towards Skiddaw from Bassenthwaite Lake. Its name is Old Norse and is thought to mean 'the peak where the wolves play', and it was written down as Ulvelaik in the 13th century. The top is a small rocky spot surrounded by heather. Steep slopes fall east into quiet Southerndale, while the west side drops through woodland to the lake.
