Dow Crag is named after its great eastern cliff, about 100 m high, which towers over Goat's Water and carries more than a hundred climbing routes. The summit is a bare rocky point right at the top of the crag, with no cairn. Locally the name is still said 'Doe', and from the top there's a fine view south and west to the coast, with the long, gentle western slopes running down towards the Duddon.
