Great Carrs has a small cairn on rock right on the edge of the crags that ring the head of Greenburn. Just along the ridge above Broad Slack lies the undercarriage of a Halifax bomber that hit the fell in thick cloud on a night exercise in 1944, killing everyone on board. A wooden cross and memorial cairn mark the spot, and one of its engines is on show at the Ruskin Museum in Coniston.
