Holme Fell is a rough little ridge between Coniston and Little Langdale, with a cairn on the rocky knoll of Ivy Crag just north of the true top. For its size it has a wide outlook, taking in almost the whole of Coniston Water. Its flanks hold the old Hodge Close slate quarry, whose flooded workings draw climbers and cave divers. The name is thought to come from Old Norse for a dry spot in a marsh.
