Ling Fell takes its name from ling, the old word for heather, which covers much of this wide, rounded dome above Wythop Mill. Remains of grouse butts show it was once used for shooting. The trig point stands on the north side, a little lower than the unmarked highest ground, and the best view is north to the Solway Firth and the Galloway hills.
