Sale Fell is a mile-long ridge of grass and bracken above Wythop Beck, with the conifers of Wythop Wood on its eastern end. Its top is a rocky outcrop; the cairn the guidebooks describe has gone. Bassenthwaite Lake fills the foreground, the Skiddaw group looks excellent, and on a clear day the Galloway hills and the Isle of Man are in sight.
