Lingmell rises straight out of Wasdale Head, and its summit cairn, which replaced the thin stone column Wainwright drew in the 1960s, sits right above a line of eastern crags. Below them is Piers Gill, a deep, L-shaped ravine counted among the finest in the district, though walkers are warned not to try following it. From the top, Great Gable stands just to the north, with the climbing crags of the Great Napes on its flank.
