On a mostly grassy stretch of the Helvellyn ridge, Raise stands out for its rocky top, with a cairn perched on the outcrop. The Lake District Ski Club runs a ski tow on its slopes, serving a snow bowl when there's enough snow. Lower down on the Stang ridge, a long flue once carried fumes from the Greenside lead mine smelter up the hillside to a stone chimney, and the Sticks Pass bridleway crosses the ridge just to the north.
