Watson's Dodd is a grassy triangle of a top on the main Helvellyn ridge, and its small cairn sits at the western tip rather than in the middle. Dodd is a dialect word for a bare, rounded hill, but nobody knows who Watson was, though a Watson's Park recorded nearby in 1734 hints at the early 1700s. From the top you look down on Thirlmere to the central fells, and on clear days to the hills of south-west Scotland.
