Red Pike's summit cairn sits right on the edge of Mosedale Crags, a near-continuous wall of rock dropping into the valley. Near the lower southern top is The Chair, a windshelter built onto an outcrop in the shape of an armchair, which once gave the fell its name. From there the view south takes in the Scafells and the Wasdale Screes, while Pillar and Scoat Fell block the view north, and it's often called Wasdale Red Pike to tell it apart from its Buttermere namesake.
