Yewbarrow is the steep-ended fell on the left of the classic view up Wast Water to Great Gable, rising straight from the lakeshore. Both traditional ways up involve scrambling, one through the rocky cleft of the Great Door and the other up Stirrup Crag, and the summit cairn sits on grass between them. The name is said to come from yew trees that once grew here and the fell's barrow-like shape.
