Aleck Low is a gentle rise on the White Peak plateau near Newhaven, crowned by an ancient round burial mound with a trig point beside it. The Victorian antiquarian Thomas Bateman dug into the mound in 1843 and found a crouched burial, a cremation, pottery and flint tools. Its name comes from the Old English hlāw, a burial mound, and from the top you can see across to Minninglow, another hill topped by prehistoric tombs. The summit is on private land.
