Corbar Hill rises just north of Buxton, with a trig pillar on top and a tall wooden cross nearby. The first Corbar Cross went up in 1950, a gift from the Duke of Devonshire to Buxton's Catholics, and after protesters cut it down in 2010 a 6 m oak replacement took its place. Below lies Corbar Woods, the town's oldest woodland, and the hill's Nithen Quarry supplied sandstone for Buxton's town hall.
