Kinder Scout is the roof of the Peak District, a huge high plateau where the true top is just a grassy hump on a peat mound, with no trig point to mark it. The trig point most people head for is Kinder Low, about 900 metres to the south-west and three metres lower, right beside the Pennine Way. In 1932 the Mass Trespass on Kinder helped win the right to roam on open moorland that walkers enjoy today.
