Above the villages of Great and Little Longstone, Longstone Moor is a rolling stretch of limestone upland with a cairn built on top of an old burial mound. Lead miners worked the rakes here for centuries, and their spoil has left metals in the soil. That poisoned ground now suits rare plants such as spring sandwort, and the moor is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
