Ben Lomond's name is usually taken to mean 'beacon hill', from a Brittonic word for a beacon, and on a clear day it can be seen from higher parts of Glasgow. Since 1995 it has been part of the Ben Lomond National Memorial Park, a war memorial to those who died in the two World Wars on National Trust for Scotland land. The grassy, rocky summit has a trig pillar, though the true high point is a rock outcrop a few metres away.
