Càrn a' Choire Bhoidheach means 'cairn of the beautiful corrie', probably after the corries on its northern side near The Stuic. It lies south-west of Lochnagar on the White Mounth plateau, and the name first appears on the Ordnance Survey six-inch map surveyed between 1869 and 1885. The top is flat, grassy and featureless apart from a cairn, which makes finding the way tricky in mist.
